GRE Prep – The Must-Have GRE Prep Book
Books, GRE Courses — By Emily on February 5, 2010 at 8:10 amIt’s incredible how often I see the question “which is the best GRE prep book to get?” The range of answers you will get vary by person and by each individuals strengths and weaknesses. However, there is general consensus that the official prep book from Educational Testing Service (the official distributor of the GRE) is the best prep book out there. We want to second, third, fourth, and fifth the importance of getting this book!
Why is Practicing to Take the GRE General Test so important? There is one primary reason. It is put out by ETS and is the ONLY GRE prep book put out by them.
Although other test prep companies have excellently researched test prep questions designed to simulate real GRE questions as closely as possible, the fact remains that those companies are still only approximating real GRE material. ETS is the only company that has the rights to disseminate official GRE questions because they own sole rights to the material.
The result of ETS’ sole proprietorship over all past and present GRE material is that their book is the only book out there that contains actual questions from previous versions of the official GRE. They say about the book:
“This official guide contains Verbal and Quantitative sections from 7 previously administered paper-based GRE General Tests, including one test with explanations. It also provides several examples of each type of test question found on the test along with explanations of the correct answers.
It includes Analytical Writing information with sample topics, responses and scoring information and contains a math review section to familiarize students with the mathematical skills and concepts likely to be tested. Test-taking strategies, answer sheets, correct answers and score conversion tables are also included.”
Regardless of other books, classes, and tutors that you might use to supplement your study for the GRE buying this book is a staple in any good GRE prep plan.
